Description

So our latest guest has been the director of urban planning at AMAT, which is the mobility, environment and territory agency in the municipality of Milan, @demetrio Scopelliti.

.

Demetrio is an architect passionate about cities. His research and study focuses on the contemporary urban condition and future trends. He views architecture and urban design as catalysts for innovation and change. And he is also an urban observer and a placemaker, who is fascinated by how urban design, particularly in streets and public spaces,  affects people's behaviours and social life. Demetrio is concerned by the way urban mobility affects the liveability and the quality of the urban environment. And believes that cities should be designed for people, not cars.

Previously and As Advisor to the Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning at the City of Milan, he has been involved in managing various policies and programs, ranging from the Milano 2030 City Plan (PGT) and the masterplan for the regeneration of the Railway Yards (Scali Ferroviari), to the Reinventing Cities competition launched by C40, the Resilient Cities programme pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Piazze Aperte project.

During his career as an urban designer at Arup he also has collaborated with several offices, such as Milan, London, New York and Istanbul, and has co-authored the report ‘Cities Alive, Towards a Walking World’.
