This week the girls try and unpack why speaking of Mental Health is taboo within the Pacific Island community. They first speak of their own experiences and expand on possible reasons as to why they think it isn't discussed on a more frequent basis. They go into: Taboo topics, Life or death situations, patriarchal households & how Capitalism may be the cause of mental health issues + so much more....
This week the topic of discussion is MENTAL HEALTH. A term that is as taboo as it is foreign in many households. We discuss the different ways mental health can be perceived and how that can shape how we identify mental health in ourselves and others. We share personal anecdotes and reflect on our own upbringings and the ideas behind mental health to begin a much needed conversation surrounding mental health.
