No this episode emphasizes the friendship between the 2 of them and how they become such close friends yes fry is benders 1st real friend and fry is never had a robot for friend but hes always wanted one which I believe is quited in episode 1 but still the whole point I believe of this episode is how they become closer as real friends and why it's important.
