Chaos Reigns: Upsets and Scares Define Wild Saturday in the Big 12

Saturday in the Big 12 proved that the expanded league is embracing chaos, featuring a major upset, a late-night thriller, and a scare for a Top 10 team.

The headliner was Colorado’s statement 24-17 upset victory over No. 22 Iowa State in Boulder. The Buffaloes earned their first Big 12 win of the season and second over a ranked opponent under Coach Prime, relying on a fourth-quarter interception and a clutch defensive stop to hold off the Cyclones and throw a wrench into the conference standings.

Meanwhile, No. 9 Texas Tech survived a significant scare during its Homecoming game against Kansas. The Red Raiders burst out to a 21-0 lead, but the Jayhawks, led by quarterback Jalon Daniels, showed resilience, fighting back to cut the deficit to just 21-17 at halftime. Despite losing quarterback Behren Morton to injury, Tech pulled away in the second half, relying on a massive 263-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance from Cameron Dickey to secure the 42-17 victory and remain undefeated.

In a late-night battle, No. 18 BYU narrowly escaped an upset on the road, defeating Arizona 33-27 in double-overtime to keep their perfect record intact. Elsewhere, Utah delivered a dominating 42-10 victory over No. 21 Arizona State, running for 276 yards and six touchdowns, thoroughly dismantling the Sun Devils' highly-rated run defense. The day firmly establishes the Big 12 as one of college football's most unpredictable conferences.
