hi, my name is insecure is the sum of years of hard work from Sam as he builds his dream body of work, incorporating tracks which are already fan favorites alongside exciting new material. The album, out today, also sees Sam team up with writer Pablo Bowman (Calvin Harris, James Arthur, Jonas Brothers) as well as writer and producer Danny Casio (Little Mix, Joy Crookes, Tom Grennan, Rudimental). The album includes hit tracks ‘someone else’, ‘time will fly’, ‘see me’, ‘lose it all’, ‘phones in heaven’ and ‘numb’.
The title of the album, hi, my name is insecure, speaks to Sam’s more introverted side as he explains, “I really like being in the company of my friends, but if you take me out of my comfort zone, and have me hang out at a party or an event or whatever, I just go inside myself and I find any excuse to get out of it.”
The newly released single, ‘almost killed me’, delves into the turbulent and confused emotions of a break-up, with Sam’s raspy tones and pop-rock guitar riff bringing energy and grit to the tune. Produced by Matthew Koma (PINK/Britney Spears) and co-written by Caroline Pennell (Demi Lovato, Ava Max, Zara Larrson), speaking on the single Sam says: "Almost Killed Me is all about those times when you’ve finally got out of a difficult relationship and you can see it for what it truly was. whether bad, toxic or just not meant to be. Sometimes it’s the hope that kills you and that is what it’s about. You really think you can make it work sometimes, but when it’s over and you have time to sit with it, you can finally see the bigger picture. I love this song and am so excited for it to be heard!"
If there’s one thing Sam wants his fans to take away from his live show, or from his music, it’s that a problem shared is a problem halved. Sam shares that “Whenever I talk about my problems in my songs, I feel like a weight has been lifted, because I know that I don't have to hide or be ashamed of that thing, and I want everyone else to feel that like there's nothing in this world that you might feel sad about that is shameful. In terms of mental health, there isn’t anything you ought to shy away from, you should always let people know if you’re struggling.”
Since starting his musical journey at 16 years old busking on the streets of Brighton, Sam has gone on to sell out shows around the world and amass a dedicated and enraptured fanbase, cementing his reputation as one of the fastest-rising British male artists. He was hailed by the likes of GQ as “one of the UK's most exciting vocal talents of the moment”, CLASH’s “the man of the moment” and last year was nominated for Rolling Stone's Rising Star Award. He’s cultivated an incredible online community for millions to share their love of music and has received praise from high-profile artists including Drake, Fred again.., Justin Bieber, RAYE, Sam Smith and more.
The future looks bright for Sam Tompkins as he looks ahead to supporting singer/songwriter Myles Smith on his North American tour throughout September and October, which sees Sam perform at sold-out shows across Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, West Hollywood, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver, Saint Louis, and Kansas City. Tickets are on sale HERE. Not only this, but later this year Sam will also be heading out on his biggest EU and UK headline tour. The tour will see Sam perform across the UK and Europe throughout November and December. He will take to the stage in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham, Brighton, Bournemouth, Madrid, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Prague, Hamburg, Warsaw, Munich and Amsterdam. Tickets are on sale HERE
Championing authenticity without taking himself too seriously, and using his ever-growing platform to encourage others to do the same, Sam is an artist apart.
