We take another dig through the archives this week, hoping to reveal some of the secrets behind one of the, if not biggest achievements in the history of mankind. On the 20th July 1969, with the whole world watching, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins went where no man has gone before and set foot on the surface of the moon. Or did they? In the fifty years that have passed, there have been many questions raised about the legitimacy of this achievement, with many conspiracy theorists believing that the landings were a hoax so NASA could ensure victory against the Soviet Union in the post-Cold War space race.
In this episode, Calum scrutinises some of the official moon landing footage, presenting the theory that it was faked by acclaimed director Stanley Kubrick, who’s 1980 film ‘The Shining’ served as a cryptic confession to his involvement with NASA. Luke explores the potential reasons why, in the 48 years since the final Apollo mission, we have never been back to the moon. Finally, John entertains the possibility that the moon is actually hollow, containing unknown properties and the possibility that it features man-made technology to protect the Earth from extra-terrestrial threats.
This podcast aims to offer an informal yet informative insight into some of the explanations and suggestions that the internet has to offer, discussing the factual and the far-fetched, in a light-hearted conversation between three close mates.
