Description

The Trump administration, along with US Secretary of Health & Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has been shifting its posture toward global health governance, particularly in relation to the World Health Organization (WHO) and its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Back in January, the US formally announced its withdrawal from the WHO. The US is also refusing to commit or reducing contributions to global health alliances such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, citing distrust of vaccine-policy bodies. Critics say this will weaken the multilateral global health architecture and create uncertainty in how global health threats will be managed. But is it better for the US overall? Max Primorac, Senior Research Fellow at the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at the Heritage Foundation, joins Newell to dig into it.
