Isflak Oil Project Connects to Johan Castberg Hub
Update: 2025-12-12
Description
Equinor and partners invest over four billion kroner to develop Isflak oil discovery, connecting it to Johan Castberg hub in the Barents Sea. Isflak, discovered in 2021, is expected to hold forty-six million barrels of oil and start production in Q4 2028. Using standardized designs from Johan Castberg, Isflak will be developed using two wells, linking directly to existing infrastructure. Johan Castberg, which started production in 2025, holds between 450-650 million barrels of recoverable reserves, with potential for another 250-550 million barrels through drilling and nearby prospects. Equinor aims to connect more discoveries to established hubs, maintaining national oil output through 2035, with seventy-five underwater developments expected across the Norwegian continental shelf.
