Stephania Vasconez, Founder and Executive Director of Mutual Aid Partners discussed the steps her organization is taking to help with this issue. Mutual Aid Partners is a 501 c(3) organization, and they conduct a weekly food distribution in downtown Grand Junction. Mutual Aid Partners serves as a resource clearing house for additional services for low-income or homeless in the community. They partner with multiple human services agencies in the area. Food insecurity continues to be an issue in Mesa County. Currently, 14% of all residents are considered food insecure, and among children in School District 51, 52% qualify for free or reduced lunches.
