Description

Episode 8 features a conversation with Jess Ardolino, to dive into, among other things, the topic of non-verbal communication in the disability community.

Jessica Ardolino is a mother to 4 children, happily married for almost 7 years, and has been a New York City police officer for almost 11 years. Jess wrote a children’s book, Outstanding Olivia, about her daughter Olivia who has Down syndrome and is nonverbal.

In this episode, Jess discusses AAC devices. An augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device, is a tablet or laptop that helps someone with a speech or language impairment to communicate. Jess founded a wonderful resource in AbleNet (www.ablenetinc.com), a company that helped her navigate obtaining the device her daughter uses now.
