Update: 2024-12-30
Description
Former United States President Jimmy Carter has died aged 100 at his home in Plains, Georgia. President Carter served a single term in the White House from January 1977 to January 1981. During that time, he helped negotiate the landmark Camp David peace accord between Israel and Egypt and reached nuclear arms treaties with the former Soviet Union. But the final year of his presidency was overshadowed by the Iran hostage crisis, and he lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan. President Carter went on to champion a number of philanthropic causes, including building homes for the poor, fighting disease and promoting democratic reforms.
