Julian Brave Noisecat & Emily Kassie - The TMG Interview
Update: 2024-08-19
Description
Documentaries are especially effective when they bring to light something you may not have otherwise known about. A lost bit of history in Canada is the segregated boarding schools for indigenous children and the abuse of these kids at the hands of the Catholic Church (happening for nearly a CENTURY). The film Sugarcane follows the investigation into this history and documents the resilience of the people who survived their time in the schools and the aftermath. Co-directors Julian Brave Noisecat and Emily Kassie talk to Paul Preston about making the film, the emotions digging up the past have stirred up and more.
