Description
August is #womensmonth, which means another opportunity to celebrate and amplify womenβs voices and achievements. ππ½ππ
Although women should be celebrated and uplifted every ππ½singleππ½ dayππ½, the month of August is extra special, πas we pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on the 9th August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.
The pass Laws (also known as the Dompass) were a form of internal passport system designed to segregate and control the movement of Black and Brown people in apartheid South Africa.
