Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently signed into law a new bill that restricts what can be taught in public schools about homosexuality. The so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill, also known as HB 1557, prohibits teachers from discussing anything related to homosexuality or transgender issues in the classroom. This includes both classroom instruction and extracurricular activities, such as school clubs and events. Supporters of the bill argue that it protects children from being exposed to topics that may conflict with their parents' values, while opponents claim that it is a discriminatory measure that could harm LGBTQ students and limit their access to important resources and support. The passing of this bill has been met with controversy and criticism from civil rights organizations, educators, and members of the LGBTQ community.
