Una bella mula, ben nutrita e governata, si inorgoglì e dichiarò a se stessa, ad alta voce:
"Mia madre fu una cavalla veloce, ed io assomiglio a lei."
Ma un giorno si presentò la necessità di correre e dovette, suo malgrado, farlo. Dopo la corsa si sentì triste, e all'improvviso le venne in mente che suo padre era un asino.
