Lean hog futures surged on Tuesday, with gains ranging from sixty cents to ninety-seven cents across contracts. Open interest increased by three thousand six hundred eighty-four contracts, and the USDAs national base hog price was at seventy dollars and thirty-eight cents. The CME Lean Hog Index dipped, while the USDAs pork carcass cutout value dropped. Slaughter numbers showed a weekly total of nine hundred forty-two thousand head, up from last year but down from the previous week.
