Letter to the editor: Short-term rental regulations are an overreach and hurting Summit

Description

I read with interest a normative summary titled “Thousands of Colorado vacation units were taken off the rental market in June, but visitors are still booking trips” in the Summit Daily News.

While covering a wide range of “why’s and wherefore’s” there is a glaring oversight when it comes to the absence of the issue of the unilateral restrictions imposed by government entities on short-term rentals by both towns and counties, which has skewed the normal economic reality of “supply and demand”.

As the old saying goes, “All decisions have consequences, and most consequences are unintended”.

A recent story in your paper addressed the projected issue of flattening, if not falling, future revenues for County collections, while the County keeps increasing projected spending estimates and expanding their support of social engineering programs.

As another economic principle states: “There are finite resources and unlimited desires, needs and wants.”

It is beyond time that the elected officials and their bureaucratic minions quit their socialist agendas and serve the interests of the citizens only.

If the government was created “by the People, for the People, and of the People”, then is it not time that the People take back control of of government for the benefit of the People who are citizens and not interlopers?

Next year’s elections will be a watershed moment and determine if the adherents to the philosophy of Marx, Engles & Alinsky are finally consigned to the “dust bin of history” and the country continues its way forward to a record setting another 250 years of existence.
