Description

In today’s episode of the Tranquil Awakenings Podcast, Debbie will be in conversation with Klare Bailey, who after fleeing domestic abuse, began a journey of intense study, to understand how the trauma had impacted her body and mind. Through this journey a passion within her grew to help women who had fled domestic abuse situations.

Klare who is a trained counsellor, coach, and eye movement therapist, now works with women to help them learn how to value themselves through supporting them to change the negative voice within their mind, something which Klare notes has often come from their abuser or upbringing, with the aim of helping each client develop their self-esteem and confidence.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • After experiencing situations of trauma, the body and mind can go into overdrive.
  • Patterns of abuse or toxic relationships often begin in childhood.
  • Our identities are shaped by the experiences we have had.
  • It is important to challenge your limiting thoughts and beliefs about yourself.
  • Looking for the glimmers, the tiny magical moments in everyday life can support well-being.
  • If you are in an abusive relationship, it is important to seek help and support.
  • Finding time for rest and relaxation is an important element of recovery.

BEST MOMENTS

  • “So essentially what happened was, approximately 13 years ago, I had to do a runner from a relationship that was abusive, highly, highly toxic, involved women's aid, police, solicitors, lots of stuff. I had the most amazing support. However, what I found was that once I'd got out and the dust had settled, all the help disappeared. And I was kind of left in this state of being absolutely shell shocked.”
  • “I was like, you know what, I cannot live my life like this. I have to sort this out myself. So, I started on this epic journey, fascinating, epic, real hyper focus of studying trauma, the impact of trauma, what happens in the brain, what happens in the body, everything to do with it because I needed to understand why my body was behaving that way, why my brain was behaving that way. I had to find my own route to get better.”.
  •  ”So it was a personal journey that gave me this fire and determination, passion to say, no, we're not tolerating this anymore. There has to be a better way.”
  •  ”When we actually look at what happens in the brain and we've got these neural pathways that, and I always think they're a little bit like if you're building a road system, you know, you start off with the kind of baby neural pathway and it's essentially like a little bit of a footpath going through the and then if you go over it enough times, it becomes a more definite pathway.”
  • “ And I always think it's a little bit like, you know, when you're rolling a snowball, it takes a while to get it going, but my golly, you know, once, once they get going, it's amazing.”
  •  ”Just that you're worth it. You are absolutely worth it. And I know it's hard, but I promise you the work is worth putting in.”
