Live cattle futures plummet, down by $2.85 to $2.10, following cash sales in the northern regions at $215-$220 and southern sales at $224. Feeder cattle futures also face significant pressure, dropping by $4.50 to $5.50. The CME Feeder Cattle Index saw a slight increase, up $0.56 to $340.20. Beef export sales were strong, totaling 18,846 metric tons in the week ending October 2nd. October placements and marketings are expected to decrease, with the number of cattle on feed projected to be 2.2% lower than last year. USDAs wholesale boxed beef prices were mixed, with Choice boxes down $0.29 and Select boxes also down $0.29. Cattle slaughter for Wednesday was estimated at 120,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 357,000 head, 6,000 more than last week but 15,451 less than the same week last year.
