Live cattle futures surged, with December contracts climbing thirty-two and a half cents to two hundred thirty dollars and seventy-two and a half cents. Feeder cattle futures also rose, with January contracts gaining ninety cents to three hundred forty-six dollars and fifty cents. Cash trade softened, with live cattle prices at two hundred twenty-eight to two hundred twenty-nine dollars and dressed at three hundred fifty-six to three hundred fifty-eight dollars. Export sales showed strength, with eleven thousand four hundred three metric tons of beef sold. Boxed beef prices rose, narrowing the Choice over Select spread. Federally inspected slaughter hit an estimated one hundred twenty-one thousand head, eleven thousand above last Monday and up one thousand six hundred four from last year.
