Live and Local with Treasure Pains!
Description
The band Treasure Pains stopped by Live & Local last week, ahead of a show at Rubies on 5 Points in downtown Durham Monday, October 20.

Treasure Pains is a foursome: Jessi Knop, Zach Large, Kyle Cox, and Kellette Wade. With a driving post-hardcore sound anchored by Knop’s powerful vocals, they dropped their debut EP, “Charming,” just last year – but most of the band members have known each other for a long time.
“I’ve known Zach since early high school,” says Wade. “I used to go to his house and watch his brother’s band practice, so we go way back…I hadn’t been in a band since that time, and he asked me to come out of retirement.”
Knop’s musical connection with Large also dates further back. “Zach and I were playing in another project that ended up not really going anywhere,” she says. “Zach was playing drums in that band…and he was like, ‘well, I still want to play music, but I kinda want to play guitar.’ And I was like, ‘all right, let’s see what we can do.'”
Treasure Pains’ most recent release is a four-song split EP with the band Spares. Spares is based in Portland, but the two bands can actually trace their origins back to the same North Carolina house: Mike Large of Spares is Zach’s brother, and they previously played together in the band Youth League.
Listen to the new EP and purchase it on Bandcamp.
“We’re both from Sanford,” Zach says, “and he had been playing a bunch of music when I was growing up, and it really inspired me to start playing music…It’s just really awesome that this worked out, that we’re able to still be connected with music even though we’re not in the band together anymore.”
Treasure Pains and Spares are celebrating their new release with a show at Rubies on 5 Points in Durham Monday, October 20. The show begins at 7:00 , with two other bands also on the bill: Museum of Light and Feversleep, both also from the Pacific Northwest.
