As President Donald Trump ramps up his authoritarian takeover, crackdown on civil liberties, and mass deportations, American Jews rallied outside of ICE headquarters to denounce the abduction of Mahmoud Khalil under the guise of fighting antisemitism. Rabbis, community leaders, and advocates for immigrant justice spoke out against the targeting of Khalil — and others who have been abducted by ICE in recent weeks — as an authoritarian test case to see how far Trump’s regime can extend its powers to curtail freedom of speech.
