Lucia Sorbera: A Transnational Journey in Arabic Language and Cultures

Lucia Sorbera is Associate Professor in Arab, Islamic and Middle East Studies at the University of Sydney. She chairs the Discipline of Arabic Language and Cultures and co-leads the Cooperation and Conflict Research Cluster. Her research focuses on colonial and postcolonial histories of SWANA, gender, sexuality, and feminist movements. She holds a PhD from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and has held fellowships at Bologna, Macerata, Bergamo, CUNY, and the European University Institute. She is the author of Biography of a Revolution and co-editor of Sex and Desire in Muslim Cultures. Her publications span Arab cultural production, oral history, and political memory. She serves on editorial boards including Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies and Protest. Lucia contributes to public scholarship through literary and film festivals and cultural programming. She is a core member of the Powerful Stories Network and active in international research collaborations.
