Description

Being able to determine your own schedule is one of the perks of working from home. It can also help when raising kids with special needs. That's why Carrie a mom of two decided to turn her passion into a business that allows her to have a flexible schedule while working from home.

Carrie Keefe is the Founder of Sweet As April a business that sells hand sewn bonnets for babies and kids that are made from upcycled materials. She started Sweet As April as a blog, a place where she could share everything she was learning about being a mother, an artist, a maker and a woman who felt as though she had just lost her way. On that afternoon when she stitched her first bonnet she wasn't planning on selling them. Leia (her youngest) needed a sunbonnet for their camping trip, and because she had very little money at the time, she decided to sew one, using some of her childhood bedsheets. At the time, she was making the decision to close a gallery and gift shop she had opened and worked at for 7 years to stay home with her 3-year-old son, Elliot, who was newly diagnosed with autism. However, through sharing her bonnet creation online, people started asking her to make more and she decided to turn Sweet As April into a business; one that has helped her make a living while being able to stay home with her kids.
