Description

Last week, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of three men fighting in a parked car, received reports of disputes at the same residence twice in one day and arrested a drunk man for hitting cars with his snowboard.

The following incidents occurred between Monday, Nov. 10, and Sunday, Nov. 16, according to the weekly log of notable calls published by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies tried to contact a man Nov. 10 regarding a warrant he had for his arrest. When he saw the patrol vehicle, he ran inside a building, and the deputies were unable to locate him. Later, the man went to the Summit County Justice Center and asked if he had a warrant. Deputies placed him in custody without incident and took him to the county jail for the warrant.

A tenant in unincorporated Dillon reported Nov. 13 that his landlord, who is also his roommate, asked to talk and started yelling at him. He said the landlord displayed hostile and verbally aggressive behavior and that the landlord threatened him with a knife, although he was not injured. Deputies arrived on scene and interviewed both parties, as well as two other roommates. They could not substantiate any threats due to conflicting accounts. A few hours later, the tenant called again for assistance. He reported another roommate had attacked him, and that roommate claimed the tenant was “talking trash” to him. The tenant had filmed the roommate with his phone, initiating the altercation. The tenant did not sustain any injuries but wanted to press charges, so deputies gave the roommate a summons for harassment.

In unincorporated Breckenridge, a resident requested a response to her home Nov. 13 after waking up to a bright light in her backyard. She said no one else should have been home at the time. Deputies checked the home for intruders and searched the outside perimeter, finding that an animal was most likely the culprit. They did not find any evidence of intrusion or observe anything suspicious.

A homeowner in unincorporated Breckenridge on Nov. 14 reported a recent burglary, saying thieves took several random things that had little value from their home. The homeowner requested a report for insurance purposes but did not want to press charges.

On Nov. 15, a deputy pulled over a vehicle for speeding in unincorporated Silverthorne. The driver seemed surprised to be pulled over and had trouble providing an ID or proof of insurance. He was slurring his words and seemed intoxicated. After running the man through a crime database, the deputy learned the man had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in court after receiving a traffic ticket. The deputy arrested the man and took him to the county jail for the warrant and DUI. An animal control officer went to the scene to retrieve the man’s dogs and ensure they were safe at the shelter for the night.

Deputies received a report Nov. 15 about an intoxicated man hitting cars with a snowboard and threatening to assault people in unincorporated Silverthorne. A woman going to work left her apartment, entered her vehicle and saw a man jump over a guardrail near her car, hitting its passenger side several times with his snowboard. She fled the vehicle, and the man tried to attack her, but she got back into her apartment and asked her roommates for help. Her roommates saw him hit other vehicles, restrained him and kept him pinned to the ground while waiting for deputies to arrive. Deputies believed the man to be extremely intoxicated and found alcohol and marijuana in his backpack. They arrested him on charges including assault, menacing and felony criminal mischief.

A group of would-be thieves tried to break into a liquor store overnight Nov. 16 in unincorporated Dillon by trying to pry open the business’ rear door. They did not get any booze but did cause significant damage to the door and building, and the investigation is ongoing.

An anonymous report Nov 16 stated three men were fighting in a car parked in a lot in unincorporated Dillon. Deputies responded and found three men in a running vehicle, but it did not seem like they were fighting. They denied having any altercation and seemed to be intoxicated, including the driver. Deputies investigated, arrested the driver for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and found cocaine in the driver’s possession. After running the men through a national crime database, deputies found the driver and one of the passengers had outstanding warrants for their arrest. They arrested the second male and transported both of the arrested men to the county jail without incident.
