DC Comics and Penguin Random House Audio Announce Full-Cast Adaptation of the Acclaimed 1996 “Kingdom Come” Series

Fans of Superman audio dramas have reason to celebrate as Marc Thompson prepares to voice the Man of Steel once again. The voice actor, who brought the Last Son of Krypton to life in DC’s audio adaptation of “All-Star Superman,” is returning to voice the Man of Steel in an upcoming full-cast production of “Kingdom Come,” the legendary 1996 limited series by Mark Waid and Alex Ross.

Set for release on November 18, this ambitious audio adaptation tackles one of DC’s most acclaimed “Elseworlds” stories, set in a dystopian future where the classic heroes have stepped back from their roles, leaving a new generation of violent, reckless “heroes” to wreak havoc across the world. When the brutal hero Magog causes a nuclear catastrophe in Kansas, Superman emerges from retirement to rebuild the Justice League and restore hope to a broken world.

The production boasts an impressive pedigree, with adaptation duties handled by BBC Radio veteran Dirk Maggs, whose previous work includes audio versions of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman,” Batman’s “Knightfall” storyline, and “Superman: Doomsday & Beyond.” Maggs brings more than three decades of experience adapting DC properties to the audio format.

Kingdom Come was always the one that got away,” Maggs explained in a statement, expressing his long-held desire to adapt this particular story. The production promises to bring Alex Ross’s iconic painted artwork to life through cinematic sound design and an original orchestral score by James Hannigan.

The star-studded cast includes over 30 actors, with Edoardo Ballerini voicing narrator Norman McCay, the preacher who witnesses the unfolding apocalypse, and Lorelei King as Wonder Woman. Tom Alexander takes on the role of Magog, the anti-hero whose actions set the dark events in motion.

This marks the second major collaboration between DC Comics and Penguin Random House Audio, following their successful “All-Star Superman” adaptation. For fans of both the original comic and quality audio drama, November can’t come soon enough.
