Mark Champkins,Inventor in Residence at the Science Museum in London, and a former British Inventor of the Year talks to the IfM about how his career has developed from a love of making things as a child to establishing his own company. After studying manufacturing engineering at the IfM he went on to study industrial design engineering at the Royal College of Art. He provides a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of TV programme Dragons Den where he gained £100,000 in 2007 to set up his company. Concentrate Design (http://www.concentrate.org.uk/) sells products for school children, including the bottlecoolerpenholder and the chairpadbag. In his new role at the Science Museum Mark enjoys mixing science and fun to inspire the next generation of inventors.
