Merze Tate fue la primera afroamericana graduada de Western Michigan University y la primera afroamericana en obtener doctorados en Relaciones internacionales tanto en Oxford como en Harvard. Merze Tate was de first afroamerican woman graduated on the Western Michigan University and also the first afroamerican woman to obtain PhDs in International Relations both in Oxford and Harvard. Altought almost one unknown in the discipline, her contributions anticipate the realism, one of the principal schools of International Relations.
