Meta to Build AI Data Center the Size of Manhattan
Description
1. Meta Plans Massive AI Data Center
Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta is building a multi-gigawatt AI data center nearly the size of Manhattan — part of their new “Superintelligence Labs” division. The Prometheus facility will launch in 2026, with a follow-up site, Hyperion, expected to exceed 5 gigawatts.
Zuckerberg says, “If we’re serious about leading in AI, we need to build at a scale no one’s done before.”
2. ByteDance Passes Meta in Revenue — Fueled by AI Ads
For the first time, ByteDance — parent company of TikTok — has overtaken Meta in quarterly revenue. ByteDance reported $43 billion last quarter, compared to Meta’s $42.3 billion, driven largely by AI-powered advertising.
AI analyst Aleksandr Rafferty says, “ByteDance is proving that China’s consumer AI engines are already beating the West on monetization.”
3. UK Launches £1.3 Billion AI Supercomputing Initiative
The United Kingdom is investing £1.34 billion to massively scale up its AI computer power. The plan includes building a national AI Research Resource that connects supercomputers like Isambard-AI and Dawn, with support from Nvidia, Intel, HPE, and Dell.
British officials say this will boost AI breakthroughs in healthcare, energy, and climate modeling — and give the UK a fighting chance to compete with the U.S. and China in AI leadership.
UK Science Secretary Michelle Donelan calls it “the most significant expansion of computing capability in the UK’s history.”
