Michigan Bars Medicaid Data Sharing for Immigration Enforcement
Update: 2025-12-08
Description
Michigans Department of Health and Human Services issued a directive to medical providers, prohibiting them from sharing patient data with the Department of Homeland Security for immigration enforcement. This is due to a preliminary injunction, following a legal challenge. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are also barred from sharing Michigans Medicaid data for such purposes. A hearing in December will decide if this restriction continues. Michigans Department of Health and Human Services will update providers on any changes based on the hearings outcome.
