Minn. lawmakers vote along party lines to end shutdown
Description
After 43 days, the federal government is again open.
Before Wednesday’s House vote in Washington, Minnesota U.S. Rep. Angie Craig told Cathy Wurzer why she was voting against the bill.
No Minnesota lawmakers broke party ranks in the votes to end the long-running federal government shutdown. Rep. Craig joined Democrats Rep. Betty McCollum, Rep. Kelly Morrison and Rep. Ilhan Omar in opposing the measure.
All four Minnesota congressional Republicans — Rep. Tom Emmer, Rep. Michelle Fischbach, Rep. Brad Finstad and Rep. Pete Stauber — backed the bill.
The agreement, previously approved by the U.S. Senate, doesn't address a health care insurance cost issue that contributed to the congressional standoff. President Donald Trump signed the narrowly approved bill Wednesday night.
