Publisher's Summary:
A doctor wants to euthanize his terminal patients. A disgraced journalist wants a better job than flogging tours of crime scenes. The tour business is dying. There aren't enough murders in this sleepy town to draw a crowd.
A good serial killer would help.
So begins Mr. Mayhem, the new crime thriller from Jeff Widmer, journalist and author of Peak Season, a novel Kirkus Reviews calls "an entertaining mystery romp".
For a man known only as Brinker, the trouble starts when he's fired for reporting his publisher's DUI. Reduced to doing PR for a funeral home and its trolley tour of murder sites, Brinker despairs of ever restoring his pride - or his bank account. His addiction to prescription medication only fuels his rage.
When his doctor asks for a hand in dispatching hopeless patients, Brinker hires a wildly successful assassin named Angel, who brings chaos and fame to this backwoods town. But as Angel's demands soar with the body count, Brinker wonders whether he'll become the latest addition to his own list.

Get on the Bus!
âThe tour bus is filling up?â
Brinker nodded.
âAnd so are the coffins.â
"Mr. Mayhem" socks you in the gut like a shot and a beer. The mayhem never stops in this plot-driven thriller set in creepy small-town PA, where there's not a hero to be found. Jeff Widmer takes you on a wild ride in the murderous tour bus in a uniquely dark and twisted story that manages to touch on euthanasia, medical ethics, addiction, greed, sleaze, family ties that bind, sex, scintillation, and more. And then there's Brinker...
The author has a cutting and clever way with words, which makes this serial killer tale gone awry morbidly humorous despite the carnage. And how did this guy ever come up with the plot?? Ya gotta wonder.
Mr Brinker comes across as a loser and a ne'er-do-well ...
Mr Brinker comes across as a loser and a ne'er-do-well yet he is the one who solves the mystery and brings to light, and eventually to justice, an involved local conspiracy involving a number of citizens who were considered upstanding in their community.
Hometown Memories
Great read. Lots of references to names and streets and tourist sports in the Pocono Mountains. Reminiscing is great fun.
I enjoyed the book and looking forward to the next
Mr Mayhem (Brinker) is one strange character. I enjoyed the book and looking forward to the next book
Very Enjoyable!
I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Mayhem and the sarcastic Brinker, who has a comeback for everyone. Since I lived in the Poconos, I was fascinated by mention of familiar places, things, and colloquialisms - and at the same time found myself wondering what seeds of truth were in here, mixed with the fiction!
