In 2004, I had a feed and a blog. I had been trying to encourage other people to do these audio blog things. What I didn't get then is that I had to go first. The Tom Sawyer and the whitewash fence predicament. They're going to steal your ideas for sure. You just have to get them to steal the *right* ones. And this was probably the biggest thing I ever launched on my blog. But it took some steps, patience and constant beating of the drum.

One person, a laptop, a little software and a popular blog. And something to say. :-)

Those are the basic ingredients of a podcast.

I went through all the steps, and out the other end came a podcast.

Except we didn't know they were called podcasts yet.

This was the first one that started all the rest of them.

This is called a bootstrap, and if you stick with it through the end of the year, you will see the bootstrap happening right before your ears.

All you have to do is listen.
