NYC Con Edison Customers Face Delayed Rate Hikes
Update: 2025-12-24
Description
New Yorkers on Con Edison may face unexpected back bills in 2026 due to the state Public Service Commissions delay in approving the utilitys new gas and electric rate hikes, agreed upon last November. The commission has extended the current rates until the end of February, with no new voting date set. State Senator Shelley Mayer proposes a bill to cap retroactive collections and protect customers. Electricity delivery charges would increase by 3.5% in 2026, 3.2% in 2027, and 3.1% in 2028, while gas rates would rise by 4.4% in 2026, 5.7% in 2027, and 5.6% in 2028. Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and President Donald Trump have criticized the rates. For those in need, the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) offers up to $996 for heating or cooling, with emergency aid starting January 2. Checkout Solipillow.com
