In the inaugural episode of She Speaks Too, I interview The Reverend Doctor McKinley Washington, Jr., a native of Mayesville, SC, located in Sumter County. Dr. Washington is the third oldest sibling of eight sisters and brothers. He is an Honorably Retired Presbyterian Church (USA) minister and former South Carolina State Senator. He began his ministry career in 1964, at Edisto Presbyterian Church (USA) on Edisto Island, SC. During his time on the island, he led the charge to integrate the Edisto Beach State Park, which prohibited access to African Americans.
