Description

What lessons does the aging of Japan have for the West and what can the self-imposed isolation of the “Hikikomori” teach us about surviving quarantines and beyond? How does the corona virus pandemic foreshadow what could come with global warming? Join my conversation with Dr. Wieland Wagner, who served for 23 years as Asian bureau chief for German news magazine Der Spiegel with stints in Tokyo, Shanghai, Beijing, and New Delhi. He’s author of Japan – Descent with Dignity: How an Aging Country Struggles for its Future (Random House, 2018). He studied history in Freiburg, London and Tokyo and now lives in Germany with his Japanese wife.
