New York Citys MTA introduces smart fare gates to combat fare evasion, featuring AI technology and improved accessibility. These gates, currently tested at two stations, aim to reduce the estimated 300 instances of fare evasion per minute. With a budget of over one billion dollars, the MTA plans to install these gates in 150 stations, starting with 20 additional stations in the coming days.
