The Outsider episode 2: Roanoke
The pace slows considerably with much of the scenes taking place between two characters
Ralph and Terry square off; terry in an orange jumpsuit
Crowds gather before the court; video evidence has Terry in another city at the time of the milder
Terry is shot by Frankie’s brother; Ralph lands the kill shot on Terry’s killer. Chaotic and brutal scene
Terry tells Ralph he didn’t do it. Bleeds from the neck.
Ugly hooded figure watches
Ralph is in the hospital with high blood pressure; he’s killed a boy
Glory is interviewed by police after learning that her husband is dead
Meanwhile a police officer hunts in the woods; receives text to return to work. Something kills and partially eats the wild pig he was hunting
Ralph is placed on leave and referred to see a trauma therapist
Police officer sucker punched a cohort at a club; established the character as a low life
Meanwhile, Glory’s youngest daughter sees a bad man in her room
Frankie’s dad kills himself
Shadowy figure stands down the block
“Dick on the squad”,Jack, returns to the office
Ralph finds evidence pointing toward Dayton OH
Jesse sees the man in their room, again. Leaves wet footprints
Ralph sees the therapist; closed off; sees his son
Interviews Terry’s son; evidence is conflicting
Glory asks Ralph, how am I supposed to give my kids a normal life? Clear his name, by helping Ralph
Maitlans lawyer confronts Ralph; arranges a meeting
Daughter reveals that Terry got a cut - in Dayton OH. While visiting grandpa; from a male nurse.
Ends with the discovery of some dirty clothes in a barn
- Did you like that they killed Terry at the beginning of the second episode?
- What was the point of this second episode? Was it a continuation of episode one? So basically they were all one long episode.
- How do we account for the conflicting evidence? Did Terry do it? If not then who do we think did it?
- Who is Jack, and why was he introduced as an asshole in this character?
Ep.3
Police investigate the evidence in the barn
Ralph visits sons grave; witnesses a fresh grave site?
“Tee” returns after giving birth; jack complains about having to work
Ralph’s wife confronts him for working while on leave
Jacks and dick - story goes out of its way
Prison; new character - later revealed to be the male nurse Terry runs into
Jack inspects the barn; spooky it’s nighttime
Scared by a man standing in the barn; can’t find him; feels several hits to his neck; no visual evidence as to how it happens
Has significant rash on neck; painful
Investigators discuss evidence found at the barn . Fingerprints are interesting; some were of an old person some a younger person - both of the same person
They found a strange goop but can’t identify it
Ralph decides to identify Maitlans lawyer
Jesse/ Miya fave aggression from school classmates; expelled
Ralph meets with defense lawyer and PI; enter Holly
Ralp; Continues to see a therapist
Alec and Ralph fly to meet Holly
Holly is on the spectrum? Or just unique? Or more
Male nurse is in prison
Holly, Introduces the idea of a doppelgänger
“Ifs the word mocking bird”
Ralph messes with Holly
A lot happens in a short sequence of scenes
Jesse is told by the man to warn Ralph
To stop the investigation or something very bad is going to happen
Jesse tells them about the man; looks like daddy; face was messy
- Most intriguing part of this episode is Holly. Do we like her character and what do we think of the two different story lines of Holly and Ralph. Holly is on the spectrum, but is the point that maybe she isn’t? That she has some special gift where a side effect is similar to Autism. Or is this Stephen King’s lazy way of writing a unique character. Book was published in 2018 so he can’t claim ignorance or it being a long time ago. He also had a character like this in “The Dreamcatcher” in which a mentally ill boy had telekenetic powers and was actually an alien. Do we think its Aliens in this story?
- What is that in the barn? It’s Terry’s clothes, but what do we think the clear goop is on the clothes. Why was it just left out like that?
- What happened to Jack? He is clearly infected with something from the Outsider. Is the “alien” an infection that passes from person to person? Then what about the Doppelganger theory proposes. This seems to be most likely, but how does it all fit together.
