Back in 2011, Nissan was one of the first mainstream automakers to take electric vehicles seriously. For many years, its LEAF hatchback dominated electric car sales in many parts of the world.
But in recent months Nissan has started to suffer some serious financial woes, with its latest quarterly earnings showing an almost unheard of 95 percent drop in profits year on year. And that means, as the automaker prepares to tighten its metaphorical belt, things are going to have to dramatically change.
It has already committed to cutting jobs and production. Will its electric cars (and promised future electric cars) survive?
