Noshing With Josh Mendoza – January 16, 2025
Description
Author, Shadow of the Eternal Watcher
This week, Ira spoke with award-winning filmmaker Josh Mendoza, author of Shadow of the Eternal Watcher, a new noir crime thriller sci-fi novel. In this scary episode of “Ira’s Everything Bagel,” Josh talks about he made the leap from his post-apocalyptic film, “What Still Remains” to writing a novel; how the novel features alternate realities and time travel blended together seamlessly in a tale of government corruption and personal redemption; why he loves writing genre mashups; creating Duster Raines, a private detective, as the main character; how he moved from Arizona (where he grew up) to Hollywood; going to USC film school; why he always wanted to be a writer; how he’s a visual thinker; the difference in writing books vs screen plays; how he came up with the title of the book; writing for a broader audience; his dream as a kid; why “character is first”; why reading is important; and why getting words on paper is the most important thing.
Josh Mendoza is an award-winning filmmaker known for his post-apocalyptic feature film, “What Still Remains.” He received a BA in English and creative writing from Stanford University and earned an MFA in Film and Television Production from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. He has since split his time between the City of Angels and the deserts of Arizona with his wife and two children. Shadow of the Eternal Watcher is his first novel.
