Description

While the Supreme Court of India has ordered the release of prisoners and undertrials across India to decongest prisons because of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been no mention of those declared foreigners and detained in detention centres across Assam.

In this podcast, we look into the terrible living conditions in these detention centres, the rights of stateless people during a pandemic and why should these 800 plus 'foreigners' be not only  released but what is the need for these detention centres and why the government must immediately seek non-custodial alternatives to detention.

Speakers: Aman Wadud, Arijit Sen, Mrinal Sharma
