ON THE NATURE OF THINGS by Lucretius, Book IV, Part 4: SOME VITAL FUNCTIONS
Update: 2013-12-05
Description
In this section of ON THE NATURE OF THINGS, Lucretius gets into his conceptions of what happens to humans (and animals) when they sleep. In the midst of the discussion, he gets into rather frank (perhaps bordering on unseemly) descriptions of various sleep-time excretions and secretions -- not for the faint of heart!
