Operation North Star launched by Greater Manchester Police aims to enhance safety for women and girls in Manchesters city center after dark. This initiative, started in November, focuses on reducing serious crimes like domestic abuse, drunk driving, and burglaries. With increased police presence, both in uniform and plain clothes, the citys nightlife is becoming safer. Positive results have been seen in popular areas, with significant drops in rape offenses, theft, and personal robberies. The police are also working to build trust with the LGBTQ+ community and ensure everyone can enjoy Manchesters nightlife safely, especially during winter. Additional officers were recently deployed to Oldham town center following a large-scale incident to maintain public safety.
