The Durham, N.C., product, Cates originally joined the Pack in the shortened COVID season of 2020-21. After competing for three seasons, he decided to step away from the sport altogether and was working full-time. But with a need at the upperweights for NC State this year, he has returned to the program. Outside of wrestling, Cates has started his own clothing line and talks about his goals for it.
