The Kansas City Alias: The Mystery of Room 1046 and Artemus Ogletree
Part 2: Secrets from the Police File
The body was identified. The killer was not.

Welcome back to Ontario Cold Cases. I’m your host, Jay Nicoll, and in this highly anticipated Part 2, we peel back the layers on the infamous 1935 murder of Artemus Ogletree, found tortured and dying in Kansas City’s Room 1046.

In Part 1, you learned about the fake name, the missing clothes, the mysterious note for "Don," the diluted sulfuric acid, and the chilling farewell from "Louise" and her thirteen roses. Now, we go deeper.

With information directly from the police files, revealing a secret network of aliases, suspicious alibis, and leads that were never fully followed:

* The Unanswered Questions: Why did Ogletree claim he was working for a "Bond Co." when his family knew it was a front? Why was he desperate for new clothes when he’d left home with two suits?

* The Suspect’s Boast: The letter detailing the "perfect crime"—was it an empty threat, or a genuine confession? And why did the suspect desperately want to know why the FBI hadn't questioned a certain Birmingham boy?

* The Missing Thumb: A phone call from a phantom figure named "Godfrey Jordan" claimed Ogletree had lost a thumb in Cairo, Egypt. Did this severe injury exist? The autopsy report finally provides the answer.

* A World of Lies: Records reveal Ogletree was also using the alias "Eugene K. Scott," and a man in a letter claimed Ogletree was making his living off of "queers." Was the victim a blackmailer caught by his prey?

* The Locked Door: We track the timeline minute-by-minute, scrutinizing witness statements that contradict official reports and identify several uninterviewed persons of interest, including a man who claimed he "couldn't sleep" and a "commercial woman" who frequented the tenth floor the night of the attack.

The Hotel President holds decades of secrets. Now, it’s time to expose the truth hidden in the fine print of the original KCPD investigation.

Listen to Part 2 of The Kansas City Alias now on Ontario Cold Cases and help Jay Nicoll attempt to finally solve the mystery of Room 1046.
