Winston Smith has worked within the party for years, complacent as the rest of the people on this bleak landmass. Now, however... now, he is getting antsy. Now, Winston is looking for a change. Now, Winston Smith craves something he never had... Freedom. And that's when he decides to write his thoughts down.
