Description
Pat Quinn, Former Governor of Illinois, joins Lisa Dent to discuss the latest Illinois tax property changes. Quinn spent the afternoon outside of the Cook County treasurer’s office along with other citizens showing dissatisfaction with the Illinois property tax system. He introduced a campaign to introduce a constitutional amendment to change the property tax system. Quinn references an advisory referendum in 2024 ballots asking whether a property tax relief amendment should be passed. Funded by a 3 percent surcharge exclusively on millionaires, the money would be used to provide property tax relief. The referendum passed with 61 percent of voters in favor of such an amendment. Despite the challenges of corporate lobbying, Quinn believes that voters will vote in favor of a fairer property tax system.
