Barack Obama who was the Democratic candidate during the 2008 presidential campaign won the state of Florida with 4,282,367 votes or 50.9% against Republican candidate, John McCain with 4,046,219 or 48.2%. In 2008, Obama won all 27 electoral college votes in the state.

During the 2012 Presidential campaign, Former President Obama carried the state of Florida once again, with 4,237,756 votes casted for the president against Republican challenger, Mitt Romney with 4,163,447 votes. Obama once again won all 29 electoral college votes in the state.
