New cockpit audio reveals the tense moments when an off-duty pilot attempted to shut down a passenger planes engines. Joseph Emerson, a former Alaska Airlines pilot, was riding in the cockpit of a Horizon Air flight from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco when he tried to cut the engines. The flight crew quickly reacted, restrained Emerson, and made a safe emergency landing in Portland. Emerson later admitted he was under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms and hadnt slept in forty hours. He was sentenced to time served and community service, and is now prohibited from being near any aircraft.
