Plastic Kettles Release Millions of Microplastics in Tea
Update: 2025-12-01
Description
Plastic kettles release millions of microplastics and nanoplastics into our drinking water, even after repeated use. New research from the University of Queensland reveals that a brand new plastic kettle releases the highest amount of these particles during its first few uses. Even after one hundred and fifty boils, over eight hundred thousand nanoparticles per milliliter are still present, adding up to more than two hundred million particles in a single cup. Doctor Elvis Okoffo, who led the research, suggests clearer product labeling and instructions to inform consumers about this issue. The study also found that hard tap water significantly reduces the amount of nanoplastic particles released. This new information highlights the importance of considering the materials we use in our daily routines.
